Borrowing Policies

 

Eligible borrowers must have an acceptable UMD, UMUC, or USMAI ID or a Community Borrowers Card. (This includes : Undergraduates, Graduate Students, Graduate Assistants, Faculty & Staff, Regular and Research Affiliates, Employee Designees, UMD Retirees, and personal from various connected Colleges (USMAI, UMUC, CIRLA, OCLC)

If a book does not have a scan-able barcode and it starts with "N" and end with "X", then manually input the barcode on ALEPH and replace "N" with 3 and ignore the last character "X". 

 

Due Dates for library materials can be accessed online in My Account on the UMD Library website. Borrowers can also renew books from My Account if permitted.

 

Intransits are materials that a part of the USMAI campus. They may be returned to any UMCP library EXCEPT for Hornbake.

 

Interlibrary Loan Materials are items that can be borrowed from libraries that are not part of USMAI, aka the network of libraries that UMD is a part of. The List of USMAI libraries can be found here. These items must be returned to the location where they were picked up. Can always be returned at Mckeldin or EPSL.

 

Additionally, other items that must be returned to their pickup location include sound recordings, nonprint media items, course reserves, and special loans.

                                                                                                                                      

 

Requesting Materials : If a material has a due date listed in the WorldCat Catalog, it is currently checked out. To request the item, go to ‘Check for Availability,’ then click ‘Request Item’ and follow the instructions to choose a pick up location. There is a similar process to request materials from another campus library or in off-site shelving.

 

UMD Faculty and Staff are privileged to use a system called Department Delivery. This system allows books to be checked out and delivered to a Staff's department in a special package. Procedures can be found HERE.
