INTRO TO PRINT RESOURCES

The White Chemistry Library has print resources including books (series), reference materials, and periodicals.

Stacks/Books: Stacks are normal books (series) located on the bottom floor. They are shelved in numerical/alphabetical order by call number. Most stack materials circulate, but a few have a non-circulating status. Do not override their status in the computer. These can only be charged out of the Library on a special two-hour loan.

Reference Materials: Located on the main floor, these include books (series), encyclopedias, handbooks, spectra volumes, and Gmelin. Reference materials do not circulate, but can be checked out on a special two-hour loan.

Gmelin is now available online through Reaxys.

Methods in Enzymology is also available online if it is not found in the reference section.

Journals/Periodicals: Journals are located on all three floors. Journals contain recent articles published by researching scientists.

The main floor contains the most current, unbound copies of journals. These are not available for circulation.

Bound periodicals are multiple issues of a journal put together into one large book. These are shelved in alphabetical order by title from ‘A – Journal of Macro’ and ‘Journal of Molec – Z’ on the middle and bottom floor, respectively. Some journals that have changed their titles will be shelved out of alphabetical sequence. Shelving authority files on the main floor will show how such titles are actually shelved.

Bound periodicals do not circulate, but they can be charged out of the Library on a special two-hour loan.
