Fire Emergency Procedure
In case of an emergency situation (fire, bomb threat, etc.) call UMPD(5-3555) and 911 and report the following :
Meet police at an agreed upon location to direct the police to the problem. Notify the Dean’s Office (5-9127 or 5-9128) and Public Services Office (5-9251) of the situation.
If the fire alarm in Wing 5 is activated, the library must be evacuated immediately.
If there is a fire :
Emergency Evacuation
Evacuation is only necessary if the fire alarm is sounded. If there is an emergency in another part of the chemistry building, the alarm will not sound in the library.
If there IS danger, emergency personnel will activate the alarm or tell you to leave.

Any injuries of any handicapped in building

SOUND THE FIRE ALARM in the hallway outside the library. Call 911 or the fire department (5-3333)

LOG OFF ALEPH & LOCK THE EQUIPMENT FOR LOAN CABINET

EVACUATE THE BUILDING

Keep low to the floor to avoid inhaling smoke

Do not open a door that feels hot
-
Close all doors behind you
-
Use the nearest exit or stairs
-
NEVER use the elevator
-
Get far away from the building
-

IF TRAPPED BY FIRE

Close the doors
-
Open windows from top and bottom
-
Keep low to the floor to avoid inhaling smoke

Stay near a window
-
Signal fire dept. for help
