Circulation Desk/Printers

The login information for the circulation desk computers, ALEPH, and LibAnswers is located below the monitor, taped to the monitor stand.

The circulation desk printer is NOT for personal use. Neither student employees nor patrons are allowed to print personal things, even if all public computers are taken. The circulation desk printer is ONLY for printing receipts, transfer slips, and other library functions.

If the printer is not working, inform Alla and call 5-9188 for ITD/DSS.

Desktop Programs

There are a few programs that should be noted on the computer desktop. You need to know how each one works and when to use them.

  • ALEPH Circulation

ALEPH is the program we use to check out, return, and/or look up information about books/equipment/people. The login information for ALEPH is located below the monitor, taped to the monitor stand. The password changes every semester.

There are 3 ways to access a patron’s information:

Books can be looked up by scanning the barcode, manually inputting the barcode, or
looking up the call number with the ‘…’ symbol.

If a patron comes in with a new UID number and needs their barcode updated, go to the ‘Patron’ tab      search for the patron with their UID# or name      'Global Patron Information’      go to the barcode box and enter in the patron’s new barcode number.

If a lost item is turned into the circulation desk, you can look up a Patron’s email under the ‘Patron’ tab      â€˜Address Information.’ The tab will display the email the patron has on record with the university. Use the email to inform them of their discovered item in an orderly manner.

When you are done using ALEPH, clean the screen with the F4 key.

  • RefAnalytics (LibAnswers)

Whenever a patron asks a question or makes a suggestion, it needs to be recorded/tracked with LibAnswers!

  • ARES Client

ARES allows you to locate items that have been placed on course reserve. This is for viewing purposes ONLY. Do not make any changes in the system. (This program is rarely used by student employees.)

                 Login username : balannik
                 Password : rez

To view a full list of course reserve items, click on ‘Items Available at Reserve Desk.’ This lists all of our current books on reserve, including the professor and class ID information.

To search for a particular reserve item, click on ‘Search Item’ at the top of the page. You can search for items by their title, author, professor, etc.

If a patron is asking about a particular book for reserve that is not currently on our shelf, contact Alla, and she will handle the situation through ARES.

  • Scan the patron’s barcode on their UID.

  • Enter the patron’s UID manually by typing ‘CP-‘ and their UID #.

  • Search the patron’s name by clicking the ‘…’ symbol next to the input box. Enter ‘Last Name, First Name.'
